The Postmarks: “Debut”
Chris from The Postmarks came to me in the spring of 2006 and told me he had a finished album for a project that he had yet to name. It was just “Project X”. He was sending it out to different producers and after courting Sean O’Hagen and even Richard Hawley among others, he eventually found the right fit with Andy Chase of Ivy fame. Chris and I had been Ivy fans since their first album. Andy producing the album was very exciting. Even more, that he wanted to release it on his very own label but more on that another time. So Chris and I started talking about the concepts and I felt the record was very special and very precious. It had a feeling of fall – chilly outside, grey, cloudy – and sitting inside looking through the window. He and I had talked about that fall feeling years earlier. It was something we both knew and felt being from the northeast. Anyway, when it came time for the cover photo, I knew exactly what I wanted. I played around with the idea of rain on the window, but ultimately felt that was too much. A few months later, Chris would come to me and ask if I’d like to play bass for the band for a one-off show in NYC for CMJ’s annual music festival and showcase in 2006 (which would lead to numerous tours, tv, radio and festival events).
